Mi casa tica

Here is Maria, mi mama tica. She's a really lovely mama. I was really lucky to have Maria as a hostmother. She's a housemaker and so was at home most of the time. That was a really good thing for my spanish to have always someone around to speak to. Every morning I had my mix of fruits (pineapple,banana,mango,papaya...), she was cleaning my clothes every day and had always some rice and beans ready for me.

Mi casa tica

Here is Iris with Maria. Iris came at the same time in the family but just for 1 week. It was nice not to be alone at the beginning. The first hours and days in the family were a little bit strange for me. I was a beginner in spanish and didn't understand anything at all. Hopefully for me, Iris was already speaking spanish and could translate some things for me.

The school

This the CRLA (Costa Rican Language Academy). It's kind of a private school for foreign students. Most of the students are staying between 1 and 6 weeks, sometimes more. I went 8 weeks. First 5 weeks then I came back for 3 more weeks. We had class from Monday to thursday (5 hours a day) so we could travel during 3 days.

Probably the best school ever: good teachers, nice personal, a nice cafetaria. We had a lot of advantages : computers room, free cooking, dancing and conversation class. It was situated In San Pedro, a quiet neighbourhood. There was a lot of students but not too much neither. A lot of them were from Germany (I can still hear them in my head, Ach zooooooo !!!), the others came from Holland, Switzerland, Japan,United States (gringoooooos),Belgium...It was a rich experience to meet so many people from others countries.

And thanks to the school, I'm speaking spanish now, well I think so.

This is Sergio, my first teacher. I was in his class during 5 weeks. He's a really good teacher if you ask me. He can draw really well and it helped a lot for translation of words. We did some interesting activities: interviews of students about their life at the university, interview of people about their religion in Costa Rica...and a lot of homeworks

This Janina from Germany. She was in Sergio's class during the 5 weeks with me. Right now she's somewhere in Australia.

This is Jana and Keylor. Keylor was my teacher for 2 weeks when I came back at school. I had a lot of fun with them ! Talking about everything and nothing in class. The better way to learn a language, i think. Jana, from Stuggart, was already in the class before and left it just one week after I came.

San José

San Jose is the capital of CR. Living in San Jose was quiet okay. It's not really beautiful but not totally bad neither. There is a lot of pollution, garbage and noise from the traffic. The people are like in every big city...Some violence and poverty here and there but less that I expected. But life in San Jose was good, thanks to the school, the family and the parties. The really really really nice thing is the bus. The bus are cheap but drive until 10/11pm. After that you had to take a taxi. They weren't expensive but the drivers weren't honest all the time ! Bastards ! Give my money back !

El Pueblo

Popular place in San José to party. It's a shopping center the day and the night, it's a party center. A lot of bars and clubs with reggeaton everywhere and cheap alcohol. And really good cheap pizza too.

One of the most popular place in San Jose. We went there for Leonie's birthday. Best place if you can dance salsa, cumbia or merengue.
